Beni Ouarain "Pale Lattice"

Ivory on ivory. A large diamond sits in the middle of the rug with smaller diamonds nested around it and a few loose lozenges near the corners, all of it carved into the pile rather than drawn in a second colour. One photograph shows the back, where the same pattern appears as fine stripes in the weave.

At 320 × 200 cm the rug suits a long seating area. The relief is subtle in daylight from above and stronger in the evening, when lamps throw light across the floor.
