Beni Mguild "Linear Burgundy"

Colour moves through this wool rug in broad bands: crimson at one end, a wide stretch of orange in the middle, rose and red again at the other. The transitions are gradual, as if the bands had run into each other. A few small dark signs, a cross and some diamonds, sit in the orange. The sides are bound in dark brown.

At 290 × 200 cm it is a strong presence in a room and asks for quiet furniture around it. The detail photographs show a long, shaggy pile and the slight variations in tone inside each band.
