Beni Ouarain "Carved Relief"

The pattern here is made of height rather than colour: long vertical channels and nested rectangles are cut into a thick ivory pile, so the design appears as light and shadow on a single tone. Up close the relief feels sculpted; from across the room it reads as a soft, architectural texture.

This 290 × 210 cm Beni Ouarain rug was hand-knotted in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco from undyed sheep's wool and finished with a high-low shearing technique.
